Improving Eye-hand Coordination in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental condition that involves persistent challenges in social interaction, speech and nonverbal communication, and restricted/repetitive behaviors.

In this project, a physical video game is designed, which is controlled by the Kinect sensor and the player's movements. Dummy fruits are thrown within the game that the autistic child should trace and virtually catch them in the air, which increases the eye-hand coordination. In addition, a cartoonish smiling face is shown on the screen which is related to the child’s performance in the game, improving his/her ability to recognize facial expressions.
